BELLEVILLE PRESBYTERIAN
CHURCH PASTOR, The Reverend Gregory C. Zurakowski
The members of the Belleville Presbyterian Church, home to the historic Martha-Mary chapel, are delighted to announce the arrival of a new pastor. The Reverend Gregory Zurakowski brings a fascinating background and a wealth of experience to our congregation.
Reverend Greg grew up on Grosse Ile
where his parents were charter members of the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church.
One of his more memorable involvements at this church was directing the hand
bell choir for 20 years.
Reverend Greg graduated from the
University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering.
Concurrent with subsequent employment at Chrysler, Rockwell International, and
the Ford Motor Company, he earned Master’s degrees in mechanical engineering
and engineering management. Until the end of last year, Reverend Greg was
employed at Tenneco as the manager of the commercial vehicle emissions-control
department.
In 1982, Reverend Greg received a
direct commission to enter the US Coast Guard Reserve as an Ensign. After 27 years of service, he retired as a
Commander.
In 1999, Reverend Greg enrolled at
the Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit. Reflecting on that experience,
he notes, “I didn’t start out on an ordination track but I soon realized that
that was where I needed to be.”
While studying at the seminary,
Reverend Greg met Karen Fiedler, a fellow classmate. The two married in 2001
and currently reside in Riverview with their seriously spoiled cocker spaniel
Grace.
Reverend Greg is a fountain of
fresh ideas. One is a blessing of the Belleville Lake fleet, an event
tentatively scheduled for June and open to all local boaters.
Reverend Greg is pleased to invite
members in the community to join our services and congregation. (See www.bellevilleareapresbytgerianchurch.org)
